Duane has over 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry, primarily in the for-profit sector. He has an extensive background in senior management leadership as CEO/President, CFO, COO and Administrator for various healthcare organizations providing strategic leadership along with operational and financial oversight. His extensive financial and operational background allows him to quickly assess and adapt appropriate leadership initiatives to successfully address financial issues, strategic initiatives, and any certification or licensure procurement or retention. Prior to joining Spectrum Health Partners, Duane held various senior management positions with numerous healthcare organizations including, Tenet Healthcare, United Surgical Partners International, MedCath, Inc., Kindred Healthcare and Arizona Vein & Vascular Center Ambulatory Surgery Centers.

 

CEO / CFO & OPERATIONS IMPROVEMENT

  • Interim CFO of a 135-bed not-for-profit hospital along with senior leadership oversight over additional operational departments in the absence of COO and CNO
  • Provided analysis for organizational structure options and associated cost savings
  • Provided hospital real estate inventory analysis and acquisition/sale/lease plan
  • Provided contract purchased services and supply analysis with cost and value improvement initiatives
  • Provided project and strategic initiative oversight in order to achieve defined objectives

 

MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS

  • Due diligence and transaction support for successful sale of Arizona Vein & Vascular Center five clinics and our ambulatory surgery centers located in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona.
  • Operations transfer along with due diligence and transaction support for successful sale of 198-bed Lake Mead Hospital located in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • Operations transfer along with due diligence and transaction support for successful sale of 30,000 member QualMed Plans for Health HMO located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
  • Provided analysis of financial projections, contract compliance issues, and market analysis to Dignity Health and United Surgical Partners International Hospital team leadership for proposed but not completed purchase of Arizona Spine & Joint Hospital located in Mesa, Arizona.

 

ADVISORY EXPERIENCE

  • • Led the De Novo construction project of the MedCath Inc. Hualapai Mountain Medical Center including successful completion of the Arizona State Certification Survey and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services certification.
  • Worked with MedCath senior leadership in deal preparation, security & compliance verification and data room construction, for its interest in the Hualapai Mountain Medical Center.
  • Worked with Arizona Vein & Vascular Center as primary resource for all aspects of sale of the ambulatory surgery company and clinics and long-term leasing for surgery center assets.
  • Worked with Tenet senior leadership team and investment bankers in the sale and transition of operations (including Y2K preparation) of Lake Mead Hospital including acting as primary contract and administrator of all physician relationships.
  • Initiated and implemented productivity improvement projects at a number of facilities reducing costs while improving efficiencies.
  • Provided strategic insights and market research along with due diligence for numerous contracts, leasing arrangements, and acquisitions and sales for various facilities and organizations.
