Interim Chief Nursing Officer (ICNO)

Reporting to the CEO/COO, the ICNO directs nursing care activities within defined hospital policies, strategic objectives and in concert with the mission and values of the hospital. Ensures hospital polices for patient care and nursing care meet expected standards of care for safe high quality care delivery. Holds accountability for appropriate numbers of qualified staff to provide safe high quality care.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensures continuous and timely availability of licensed professional nursing personnel,
  • Identifies, directs and monitors patient care support staff to assist with management of nursing responsibilities throughout the organization,
  • Interprets and applies applicable federal, state and local law or regulation that may potentially impact the provision of patient care throughout the medical center,
  • Represent the members of the patient care staff, other disciplines and departments as appropriate,
  • Responsible for the development of Policies and procedures utilizing current research, literature and standards,
  • Responsible for the development of nursing standards of patient care,
  • Responsible for developing the nursing standards of clinical practice,
  • Responsible for the development of nursing standards to measure, assess, and improve patient outcomes
  • Has final authority for review and approval of documents impacting the provision of patient care prior to implementation.
  • Ensures standards of clinical practice and standards of professional performance are consistent with current knowledge.

 

Qualifications

Establishes and approves nursing qualifications in all areas where nursing care is delivered including, but not limited to:

  • Review and approval staff mix
  • Review and approval of competency standards
  • Provide direction to emphasize special clinical skills and patient population specific competencies as applicable

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nursing/nurse administration.
  • Minimum of 15+ years experience as a Hospital CNO
  • Previous experience as an ICNO preferred
  • Turnaround experience preferred
  • Academic medical center experience a plus
  • Ability to implement centralized processes in a large complex environment.
  • Demonstrated success in yielding unprecedented results within the area of health care operations management
